SCIENTIFIC NAME: Polyonymus caroli

Bronze-Tailed Comet

The Bronze-Tailed Comet is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is monotypic within the genus Polyonymus.

Males are dull green with a broad pink-purple gorget.

Females are green above and grayish-green below with a broken gorget that shows only some iridescent pink-purple feathers.

Both sexes have a black and nearly straight bill. Tail is both sexes is forked and shows broad greenish central feathers and bronze upper side in the rest of the outer feathers.

Feed on the nectar of flowering agave and cactus.

Dry scrub and steep canyon walls. Observed at 2800 m.

Endemic to the Pacific slope of Andes of Peru.
