Coppery Emerald

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Chlorostilbon russatus

The Coppery Emerald is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae.

Coppery emeralds are very small in size. Males are often 3.15 – 3.35 inches and females are usually 2.75 – 2.95 inches.

Males are all glittering coppery green with more darker colors going down such as copper orange and gray.

Females are coppery green above and gray below with dark cheek and white eyeline.

Shrubby and second growth forest borders in montane regions. Often perched alone near small flowers at mid-height.

Very limited range in extreme western Venezuela (Sierra de Perijá) and northeastern Colombia.
