SCIENTIFIC NAME: Phaeoptila sordida
The Dusky Hummingbird is a rather drab, ‘female-plumaged’ hummingbird. It is the only species placed in the genus Phaeoptila.
It is a medium-sized hummingbird, about 3.94 inches in length.
Both sexes are dull bronzy green above and dingy, pale grayish below.
Male has more extensive red on the bill and female has small whitish tail corners.
Feeds at all levels and usually wags and fans tail persistently while hovering.
Subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical high- altitude shrubland.
Endemic to Mexico.
