Fire-Throated Metaltail 

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Metallura eupogon

The Fire-Throated Metaltail or the Fiery-Throated Metaltail is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae.

It is a small hummingbird measuring 4.1 inches.

Males are mostly dark green with an iridescent purple gorget. Tail is dusky (theresiae) or green (parkeri). Females are also mostly green with a less developed or absent gorget and a tail with whitish tips on the outer feathers.

Both sexes have a notched tail. Bill is relatively short, black and straight. They have a white spot behind the eye.

They may resemble the Neblina Metaltails, but their ranges do not overlap.

Subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Found only in Peru.
