The Saw-billed Hermit is one of the longest and heaviest hummingbirds from southeastern Brazil. It has a distinctive bicolored straight bill with a hooked tip. It is boldly-patterned, with a pale eyebrow, an orange throat bleeding into a pin-striped breast and dark tail with orange sides. Females are slightly smaller with shorter and more curved bill.
