Wine-Throated Hummingbird

The Wine-Throated Hummingbird is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It was formerly considered a subspecies of the Bumblebee Hummingbird (Atthis heloisa) and often placed in the genus Selasphorus.

It is one of the smallest birds in the world, with a length of only 2.75 inches.

Males have expansive, magenta-pink gorget, a rather short tail with rusty base and white corners on the tail tips.

Females have a dark-spotted throat and the same tail pattern as males.

Favors shrubby clearings and edges in evergreen forests, including banks of flowers where other hummingbirds gather.

El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.
